Daily Calorie Needs Calculator
Estimate daily maintenance calories from age, sex, height, weight, and activity level.
estimated daily maintenance
- Resting energy estimate
- 1,757.72 kcal
- Maintenance estimate
- 2,724.46 kcal
- Per entered meal
- 908.15 kcal
Formula used
Mifflin–St Jeor resting energy uses 10w + 6.25h − 5a + 5 with the male option and 10w + 6.25h − 5a − 161 with the female option, where w is kilograms, h is centimeters, and a is age in years. Estimated maintenance energy = resting energy × selected activity factor.
Worked example
For a 35-year-old weighing 180 pounds and measuring 70 inches, the male equation option estimates 1,757.72 resting kcal per day. Applying the calculator’s 1.55 moderately active multiplier produces estimated maintenance needs of about 2,724.46 kcal per day.
How to understand the result
Energy needs vary with body composition, activity, health status, and measurement error. Treat the result as a starting estimate.
Assumptions and limits
- Adult planning use
- Mifflin–St Jeor equation using the selected sex-specific constant
- Activity is represented by a broad multiplier rather than measured energy expenditure
- Not medical or nutrition advice
Frequently asked questions
Is this a weight-loss prescription?
No. It estimates maintenance energy and does not replace individualized medical or nutrition guidance.
Why can actual needs differ?
Metabolism, muscle mass, activity, health, medication, pregnancy, and other factors can change energy needs.
